Recently, a social movement has begun in an attempt to show those staff members working on the front lines of the Covid-19 crisis, that they are appreciated.  This movement has taken the form of individuals ‘applauding’ those workers from their windows and their balconies at 8pm every night.

I must admit to having no idea as to whether or not the workers in social and health care appreciate this gesture – but it strikes me that perhaps instead of clapping we should be petitioning our representatives to ensure that they do something about this and ensure that these people are fully appreciated and recognised in society!!

A quick round of applause may well boost morale – but I doubt that it will pay the mortgage or put food on the table.

We should not be standing here and clapping – we should be mobilising against the blatant unfairness of a system that expects the most from those that it pays the least.  At this point, we cannot march – we’re under house arrest – but we can write and we can petition.  (We can also stop voting in the idiots that perpetuate such unfairness.)

Maybe THAT would be more appreciated.

I just signed the petition “UK Parliament: Fair Treatment for ‘Key’ Members of Society” and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name.  Our goal is to reach 100 signatures and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here:
