So – after all the posturing, the British public end up with… nothing more than the government wants to give them anyway!! Dominic Grieve; who tabled amendments to the Brexit bill in an attempt to stave off a cliff-edge option, has now accepted that the Speaker of the house can decide whether or not to amend the government’s bill when it is time to approve the negotiated deal.!! The Speaker!!
Since when does the democratic process of the UK depend on one person? Nice going Dominic – you really underlined the authority of parliament and its MPs!!!
And who appoints the Speaker?
It’s probably a time saving measure, the Whips can tag team the Speaker instead of trying to herd the Tory (and Labour) cats.
