Discrimination against any one single ethnic group is not a policy that is usually associated with socialism; but apparently (in New Zealand at least), discrimination against all ethnic groups except one is!
As part a proposal to seek to better funding for the wild trails of New Zealand, the socialist government has decided to trial a policy whereby non-New Zealanders will pay more for the facilities on the popular Milford Track than the resident citizens. Foreigners (who make-up up to 60% of the visitors), will effectively be asked to pay double for a night’s stay on four of New Zealand’s popular hiking trails. The goal of this policy is to both reduce visitor numbers and raise additional funds to support and maintain the tracks.
Eugenie Sage, the Conservation Minister for New Zealand indicated that this was “…part of setting and maintaining a fair pricing system for New Zealanders.”
Obviously, fairness is a purely national measure and cannot be expected to extend to us mere proles…
Many EU museums provide a discounted price for EU citizens.
Er… so that makes it OK then does it?
Discriminatory practices are fairly widespread across the world but it doesn’t make it right necessarily. However this differential pricing is for optional leisure facilities so maybe we shouldn’t be too concerned. However, parts of NZ want to eliminate cats….and that is discriminatory…..
