There has been a call this weekend by Iain Duncan Smith that the terms of the departure of the UK from the European Union should include the fact the the UK will not be subject the the European Court of Justice during any transition period – assuming a transition period is agreed. This follows on from a letter signed by some 30 MPs supporting Brexit which states that Leave means Leave – as meaningless a mantra as “Brexit means Brexit”.
Theresa May the Prime Minster – charged with finding the best way possible for Britain to leave the EU should be concentrating on what the British people want and need… instead, as the leader of a minority government who will do anything she can to stay in power, she is being held to ransom by every single parliamentary cabal who wish to put pressure on her to do what they want.
It is an appalling sight to see that democracy can be subverted to the will of a tiny minority; simply because the current Prime Minister is desperate to cling on to power. It is equally appalling that people whom the electorate have selected to represent them as a nation would, in full awareness of what they are doing, seek to subvert British democracy simply because they think they can. I honestly do not know what is more reprehensible, the arrogance of being willing to do anything to stay in power, or the arrogance to use such desperation to push your own personal political agenda.
One thing is clear, neither party is worthy of representing the nation, since clearly neither is interested in representing the nation.
