The current row within the British Labour Party was extended today when the Chair of the Labour Party Disputes Panel showed support for a prospective councillor who had shared a Facebook article titled “International Red Cross report confirms the Holocaust of 6m Jews is a hoax”. This has been cited by the news media as yet another example of antisemitism in the Labour Party… but is this the correct accusation to make? Denial of the Holocaust is egregiously stupid it seems to me – but is it racist?
Holocaust denial is illegal in many countries – and for most of those it would seem that the legislation is specifically directed at the public denial of acts of genocide. As such, the crime is distinct from racism or the hatred of a particular group of people. I would argue that the refusal to face up to the history of mankind is an offence against humanity, and is therefore offensive to all people, not only to those who may have suffered personally.
Why then in the UK, is this being branded as racist?
The continuing news furore linking the Labour Party to anti semitism is being driven by the MSM purely for political purposes.
Today, the Jewish Chronicle having interviewed Jeremy Corbyn say they are ‘concerned’ by his support for Jewish Labour.
The concern relates to Jewish Labour mounting a counter demonstration outside parliament on Monday evening.
It amazes me the lengths to which people will go to try to link Labour and Jeremy Corbyn to anti semitism.
