We live in muddy trenches,
Above us snowy branches.
Everybody soaking wet,
And the war hasn’t stopped yet.
Suddenly, a German arrived,
We wanted to fire but we were too tired.
He said “We can have a day off and play football”
We replied “Wack-a-doo, but do you have a ball?”
He replied, “Of course we do, now come on”
So we played and played, all day long.
There was laughter and laughter and laughter,
I mean, there was all day laughter.
But then, bombing started again,
We all knew, it was the end.
I wish the war was over,
But for our country, we must fight longer.
We said goodbye to our friendly friends,
But brilliant days like this, have ends.
At least we were happy, and that’s all that counts
